An investigation by The Business Weekly & Review has established that over the past few weeks, fuel (petroleum) companies have been battling a shortage of fuel.

Botswana Oil Limited (BOL), the stated-owned fuel company, has confirmed this. But because of limited storage capacity and alternative importation routes, Botswana Oil struggled to fulfil its mandate, which is to ensure the security of fuel supply.

BOL functions under defined governance and operating principles to inform and guide its operations. It is mandated to ensure the security and efficiency of supply and distribution of petroleum products in Botswana, manage and maintain government owned strategic storage facilities and strategic stocks, as well as to ensure meaningful participation of citizen-owned oil companies
