Stanbic Bank Botswana has been recognised as Botswana’s Best Bank for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) by Euromoney at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2024, held on the 18th of July at the Peninsula London Hotel.
According to the Bank, this accolade underscores Stanbic’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its dedication to driving a positive impact within the community. Through its Social, Environmental, and Economic (SEE) agenda, the bank has achieved milestone transactions and provided substantial support for clients, notably Wilderness Safaris and Norsad Capital, all firmly grounded in sustainability principles.
Stanbic Bank played a pivotal role as the sustainability structuring agent and lender to Wilderness Safaris, offering a bespoke conservation financing solution aimed at protecting 2.3 million hectares of land.
Additionally, Stanbic Bank provided Norsad Capital Limited with ZAR680 million in six-year sustainability-linked funding to support its growth and impact investment goals. This transaction, where Stanbic served as co-arranger, lender, and joint sustainability coordinator, was closely aligned with sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs).
Accepting the award, Stanbic Bank Botswana’s Chief Executive, Chose Modise, expressed his pride and dedication. “We are honoured to receive this award and remain devoted to our mission, as we believe that what benefits our society also benefits our business,” he said.

The recognition is not limited to Botswana alone, as the Standard Bank Group, of which Stanbic Bank Botswana is a member, achieved an impressive 16 accolades, including Africa’s Best Bank, reveals Stanbic.
Standard Bank was awarded the best bank in Africa overall, and it led in categories including Wealth Management, Advisory, and Financing. Furthermore, The Banker, a renowned Financial Times publication, ranked Standard Bank as the best-performing bank in Africa, including South Africa, in its Top 1000 Banks 2024 rankings.

Since its inception in Broadhurst in March 1992, Stanbic Bank Botswana has grown to become the third-largest commercial bank by profitability and a market leader in the Corporate and Investment Banking sector.
