We can only grow when we work together • Economic development anchored on skills transfer • Community entrepreneurship vital
PPC Botswana has continued with its quest to mentor brickmakers across Botswana. On Friday Kopong village brickmakers were drilled on different cement applications and quality management.
In collaboration with one of its beneficiaries Rampha Shamma Hardware from Kopong, a total number of 25 brickmakers received mentorship which equipped them with new and efficient ways of manufacturing long-lasting bricks. The attendants were awarded Participation Certificates.
“Our mission as PPC Botswana is to create employment and upskill community members across the country. We strongly believe that through this we are playing our part in local enterprise development. As a corporate institute it is our responsibility to play a role in community development because it grows our economy and improves communities around us. Remember we can only grow when we work together, together we are stronger,” said PPC Botswana Head of Business Unit Tuelo Botlhole.
The workshop had professional manufacturers from PPC Botswana demonstrating the manufacturing process and taking the attendants through the different stages of brick making. The brickmakers were also participated by asking questions and contributing to their experience on the craft.
PPC has previously worked on brickmaking manufacturing workshops in various villages in the country such as Pitsane and Mmokolodi where several people were equipped with skills that they have been using to better their lives and communities around them.
“The participants were eager to learn and upskill themselves. We hope that after today’s workshop we will see a huge development taking place in the Kopong brickmaking industry. We will continue to conduct these workshops mostly in villages. We are also looking forward to bringing some of them to our headquarters manufacturing for further mentorship so they gain experience of working in a manufacturing plant,” said the PPC Botswana Head of Business Unit.
