The Bulb World launches Africa’s first e-light bulb

Local light manufacturing company, The Bulb World, has launched Africa’s first e-light bulb as part of their vast array of product offerings.
Speaking at the launch of the Smart Emergency Bulb at Hilton Garden Inn in Gaborone on Tuesday night, the company’s founding Managing Director, Ketshephaone Jacob, praised his engineers for the creativity they displayed in bringing about this one-of-a-kind product.
“I have been blessed with creative engineers,” Jacob told his guests, adding that they started working on the product in 2019 and are happy that it has satisfied all requirements to hit the shelves. “When there are power cuts, Batswana can still have light,” he said of his company’s latest innovation. “The product is called an emergency light.”
The new product offering is a 3-in-1 bulb that functions as a normal light, a flashlight, and an emergency light. The bulb is rechargeable and has a lithium battery of a considerable capacity.
Botswana is set to attract accolades through the fast growing youth-based company that is the first to launch such a product in Africa that will be exported to the rest of the continent.
“The bulb is EU-rated and all the tests have been done,” said Jacob. “We are the first company in Africa to produce this kind of light.”
According to the MD of the Selibe-Phikwe-based company, they place creativity at the top of everything in their daily operations, hence the innovative bulb that will prove handy in power blackouts.
In 2020, the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA), injected some capital into LED manufacturer to see to it that they realise their vision of delivering this smart bulb.
Currently, the company has products in over 150 stores countrywide and the expansion have seen them appoint 5 area managers in the country.
Although now basking under the sunshine, the MD shared a story from their humble beginnings when they had to overcome hurdles in order to penetrate the market thus encouraging other youth entrepreneurs to soldier on against odds.
The arrival of the e-light is anticipated to boost the sales of The Bulb World as it embarks on a quest to distribute the new light across the country.
