As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) and adherence to the government’s Adopt a School Initiative, the National Development Bank (NDB) recently donated furniture and Internet equipment to Mapulane Primary School (MPS) at Goo-Moremi Village.

The equipment, which included 49 chairs, 53 desks, 10 desktop computers and provision of Internet connection for the next two years, was handed over by the CEO of NDB, Lorato Morapedi, and her executive team.

Speaking at the handover, Morapedi said Mapulane Primary School was adopted as part of the bank’s CSI responsibility and as a way of uplifting education. “We view the education of our nation from the grassroots as an important aspect of our work,” Morapedi said.

She added that she is of the firm belief that location should not be considered as a disadvantage for children, hence this donation is to help make learning a bit more comfortable in line with children in more developed areas. Technology continues to be an important aspect of education and learning, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic, Morapedi noted.

She said the chairs and desks will enable the students to adhere better to COVID-19 health protocols, particularly the aspect of social distancing within the classroom. She described herself as being particularly impressed by the performance of the school when, despite its challenges, it achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) of 2020.

“We hope that the contribution will elevate the school to even greater levels, particularly in use of the computers,” Morapedi said.
