Over the last couple of weeks, there has been immense talk and discussion of the supposed huge import bill. This, of course, had been triggered by the just-concluded celebration and commemoration of Botswana and South Africa’s bilateral economic relations. 

From the roundtable event, you could discern enormous optimism that was circumambient to the opportunities that come with mentioning the huge import bill, especially from South Africa. In May 2022 alone, we imported just above P5.3 billion worth of commodities from South Africa, the nexus of that bill being the food and beverages commodity group, valued at P801 million.
