With his contract with Jwaneng Galaxy set to expire at the end of this month, head coach Morena Ramoreboli has expressed strong desire to continue coaching the Jwaneng-based outfit.
The South African-born coach has been linked with a potential move to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), with Sekhukhune United rumored to be the favorites to secure his signature after they parted ways with Lehlohonolo Seema last week.
According to the South African publication IDiski Times, the 43-year-old coach has emerged as a favourite for Sekhukhune United. The publication further reported that Ramoreboli’s representatives recently held talks with Sekhukhune United to discuss the way forward for the club under his guidance for the upcoming season.
After his team, Galaxy, defeated Orapa United 2-1 to win the Orange FA Cup last weekend, Ramoreboli had the opportunity to address his future. In a post-match interview, he acknowledged the rumors surrounding his career.
“There are a lot of things that people are saying about me and my future, some of which I am not even aware of. I want to be honest with you. I am a Galaxy coach, I love this club and country (Botswana). Yes, my contract is coming to an end this month, and I would love to be here.”
Ramoreboli emphasised the importance of discussions between his representatives and Galaxy management, saying, “At the end of the day, it is a matter of saying when the two (his representatives and Galaxy management) sit down and talk, they need to agree and life goes on. But I need to be honest with you, I love Jwaneng Galaxy and I don’t want to see myself away from this club.”
The coach highlighted his loyalty to the club, noting that even when he recruits players, he always tells them that it’s him that is bringing them to Galaxy. He stated that he is a loyal person who does not want to sign players and leave them hanging.
“If I bring them, I want to be there and see them growing,” he said. “I brought Thero Setsile and Goitseone Phoko as well as many other players that you see. I assured them that I will be here to see them succeed. All in all, I’m a loyal person, and I know that the club management is busy in talks with my agent to see that we agree and then life goes on.”
When asked about his aims with the club in the upcoming season, should he continue as the coach, Ramoreboli stated that his team needs to advance to the knockout stage of the CAF Champions League. “I want you guys to understand something,” he said.
“The biggest problem in life is to rush success. I think one thing that Galaxy did right is to be patient. The first season, we did not achieve anything, but the management sat down and gave me and my team a chance. An impatient somebody would have changed coaches and fired me at the time, but we had to come up with a plan and say what we want to achieve.”
Further reflecting on his tenure, he added, “In the second season, we came up with a plan and won one trophy. The third season, we are here with two trophies. Now, we need to go on and say we have not been doing well in terms of progressing out of the group stages of the CAF Champions League. That’s the target now going forward. The most important thing is to do well. We need to be at a stage where we are very consistent and we improve the records.”
