Boswa Energy will now move to join the Boswa International Group (BIG), a 100 percent citizen owned company which has a number of strategic partners with extensive and relevant experience in developing and delivery of solutions for the petroleum industry, mining, telecommunications, insurance, civil and construction and power generation.
But this is not the whole story. Just before last year’s events of the new normal emanating from a lot of unprecedented events like lockdowns, Boswa Energy founder, Tumelo Sealetsa, was a man out of the game; beaten hard after trying to explore an area dominated by multinational giants.
Sealetsa decried lack of protection from government, but this fell on deaf ears.
As hope waned for Boswa Energy, Sealetsa thought of winding up the proteluem company. But along the way met like-minded people as he licked his wounds inflicted by the energy sector. BIG was incorporated in January this year and Boswa Energy will join many of the group’s companies across the Botswana economy, from the petroleum industry, mining and telecommunications to insurance, civil and construction and power generation. Eventually Boswa Energy will live its nearly moribund dream of succeeding on the proteluem and energy sector.
Sealetsa, who is currently interim CEO of BIG, has confirmed that Boswa Energy has come into the group. “BIG is in negotiations with us as Boswa Energy to rescue the company from liquidation. We have been struggling over the past three years due to a tough business enviroment locally and recently with the COVID-19 situation adding to our woes,” he said.
BIG was recently recognised as a solution to power problems on the international realm and as far as Papua New Guinea in the southwestern Pacific.
This month Boswa Energy’s parent company, BIG, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which entails supplying the Government of Papua New Guinea with biomass pacity of 100MW for 30 years. This follows Dr Simanga Alex Tsela’s appointment as Papua New Guinea’s Honorary Consul General by the country’s Prime Minister James Marape. Dr Tsela’s responsibilities cover Botswana and other countries of Southern Africa.
Dr Tsela’s honouring was followed by the signing of the PPA as he represented BIG while met by Papua New Guinea negotiators led by Ambassador Gabriel Dusawa where discussions were made with regard as to how there can be bilatteral relations with Botswana, SADC region, BIG and the government of Papua New Guinea.
Another power deal is on the pipeline is a 500MW hydropower project which will soon be closed with Papua New Guinea. Recently a Momerundum of Understanding was signed between BIG and the Papua New Guinea. BIG also has a looming local power deal with Botswana Power Corporation which will be launched soon.
BIG is incorpated under Botswana Company laws and its major shareholder is David Grace while William Mokgatle and Goabaone Mokabiri gets an equal but lower stake than Grace.
