Five cooperating public service trade unions are accusing the government and the Botswana Landboards and Local Authorities Workers Union (BLLAHWU) of “hijacking” their salary adjustment proposal for the 2025/26 financial year.
In an affidavit filed before Industrial Court Justice Gabriel Makofi, Robert Rabasimane, the chief negotiator for the cooperating unions, claims the controversial salary agreement signed between BLLAHWU and the government mirrors—almost word for word—a proposal originally submitted by the cooperating unions.
“Upon reviewing the terms, I immediately observed that the material terms of this agreement were either identical or substantially similar to the proposal previously tabled by the Applicants and still under consideration,” Rabasimane states in the affidavit.
