In a powerful demonstration of  its brand promise, “Your Story Matters,” Absa Bank Botswana has announced a transformative partnership with Dinaledi Football Academy Oodi to launch a nationwide youth talent search programme.

This initiative underscores Absa’s unwavering belief in the potential of Botswana’s youth and its commitment to turning potential into reality through targeted investments in sport and education. The partnership will see Absa invest an initial P1.5 million into the Academy’s talent identification and development programme.

The initiative is designed to scout, mentor and nurture young footballers aged 13 to 15 years, with opportunities for exceptional talents up to the age of 17 years. Structured as a three-year initiative, the programme places strong emphasis on holistic growth by balancing athletic training with academic development to build well-rounded individuals prepared for success both on and off the field.

The 2025 Absa Dinaledi Talent Search will tour the following towns:

  • Palapye: 20-21 September 2025
  • Francistown: 11-12 October 2025
  • Maun: 25-26 October 2025
  • Tsabong: 8-9 November 2025
  • Gaborone: 8-9 December 2025

Speaking on the partnership, Absa Bank Botswana Corporate Director Tebogo Giddie said,

“At Absa, we believe that every young person deserves the chance to pursue their passion and unlock their full potential. Our partnership with Dinaledi Football Academy is more than an investment in football, it is an investment in the future of Botswana. By combining sport and education, we are not only shaping the next generation of athletes but also promoting responsible citizens and future leaders. This initiative reflects our commitment as a responsible corporate citizen to enable social and economic growth through meaningful, sustainable interventions.”

Dinaledi Football Academy shares Absa’s vision for youth empowerment through sport. The Academy provides a supportive environment where talented young players can thrive in sport and academically, helping to transform raw potential into professional opportunity.

Giddie added, “Football is more than a game in Botswana, it is a source of unity, hope, and national pride. Through this partnership, we aim to elevate the sport into a viable economic sector that can create jobs, attract investment, and put Botswana on the global football map. We are hopeful that through this sponsorship Botswana will have some players who will make it to the big leagues of the world in the not-too-distant future.”

The Absa Talent Search supports Botswana’s National development goals by using sport as a tool for youth empowerment, economic diversification, and social cohesion.
