The provision in the proposed Income Tax Bill would require airlines, including those without a physical presence in Botswana, to pay three percent of the ticket price or freight invoice for passengers or goods originating locally. Non-compliant carriers risk having flights denied clearance by the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), empowered under the Bill to enforce the tax.
