Investment management company Allan Gray has finally launched its High School Entrepreneurship Challenge in Botswana, inviting students into their gamified world of wonder where children can start their journey to become the next generation of world-class business owners.

The Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge (AGEC) is an offering of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation which invests in the education and development of individuals with entrepreneurial potential within Southern Africa. The Challenge, which is currently available in South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia and most recently Botswana, has a mandate to inspire and equip young learners to develop the necessary skills to become successful entrepreneurs in the future.

“AGEC provides support, resources and a community to help students navigate their entrepreneurial path, by blending educational content with an engaging, game-based learning environment,” shared Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Regional Head Gavin Frey.

Its role is not just a competition, but as a guide in the complex world of entrepreneurship. Learners experience what it’s really like to run their own business, achieve Curriculum learning objectives while having fun, earn their place on their national leaderboard as they compete against other learners, and earn a participation certificate.

Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development Bonolo Khumothaka commended the foundation for embracing entrepreneurship and catalysing positive change to drive nations into a more prosperous and resilient future.

“The launch of AGEC is one event that demonstrates our country’s commitment in institutionalising entrepreneurial education in Botswana. It is my conviction that the game will ensure that young people become the solution providers of our current economic challenges,” she said.

The competition is open from 1st April to the 31st July, followed by Business Pitch Finals in Johannesburg, South Africa in October where the top players and schools stand a chance to win amazing prizes.
