ANGOLA: At the Angola Oil & Gas conference that took place in Luanda on Wednesday, Eni announced that it expects the first gas to flow from the first non-associated gas project in the country in 2026.

This project, the Northern Gas Complex in shallow water Block 1, reached final investment decision in July 2022 and was developed by Azule Energy, a consortium that includes Eni and the British company, BP. Eni said that the project was currently 16 percent complete and that the gas would play a fundamental role in generating more sustainable energy and would be a catalyst for developing the petrochemical industry, especially fertilisers. (Macau Business). Peak gas production on this project is estimated at around 4bcm.

Currently, the Angolan gas industry is still developing and remains relatively small. Not much of the gas produced is exported as much of it is either flared or re-injected into oil fields to improve output recovery. Eni also stated that it is moving ahead with a new “agrobio” business, an agro-industrial complex with a capacity of 20k tonnes, with the first vegetable oil to be produced in 2024.
