Following its recent transition into a commercial bank, BBS Bank continues to solidify confidence in its expanding role within the banking sector.
The bank has announced its integration into the global payment network SWIFT, which empowers it to facilitate electronic transactions with other banks, both domestically and across borders, through clearing and settlement processes.
“BBS Bank has joined the clearing and settlement system. This means that the bank is a member of the Botswana Interbank Settlement System (BISS) that is managed and operated by the Bank Of Botswana. In turn, BISS is interfaced with Botswana Automated Clearing House (BACH), which facilitates the settlement of Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs). Effectively, BBS Bank is also on the global payment network Swift,” it said in a public notice.
With this integration, BBS Bank’s customers and their beneficiaries stand to benefit from various advantages, including expedited processing for high-value and time-sensitive payments, heightened fund security, and a cost-efficient approach to fund transfers.
Furthermore, BBS Bank’s patrons no longer need to carry significant amounts of cash, assured that uncleared funds will promptly revert to their respective debit or credit accounts. They can also initiate transactions to or from their accounts from any location worldwide.
This development also unlocks the potential for bulk or batch payments, particularly beneficial for customers coordinating group orders such as payment or securities transfer orders requiring simultaneous processing.
“BBS Bank is pleased with the latest development because of the speed with which it will assist customers with their customers with their transactions and the generation of confidence in its growing abilities as a bank,” the notice stated.
