BFM Raid: Auditor says it was a Ponzi Scheme

Much of the time in court was taken up by the back-and-forth between the attorney Sipho Ziga for the liquidator Kopanang Thekiso and one of the auditors of BFM, Van der Vyver of BDO Certified Auditors. The issue was whether or not BFM was a Ponzi scheme, as one of its directors had described it in a report. The lawyer, who was clearly on a roll, was determined to extract an answer from his quarry. The man being pursued, Van der Vyver, was ill at ease and accordingly often dithered in his answers.

The troubled company allegedly fleeced district councils, land boards, trade unions, as well as individuals more than P200 million which they had invested in it.
