The ODGC is an annual golfing event first introduced in 2018, and was sponsored by the BIHL Group and Subsidiaries – Botswana Life, Bifm and BIC – to the tune of P375,000. This was the 3rd time the Group served as the Diamond Sponsor, and the 3rd time partnering with ODGC organisers for the prestigious and indeed beloved event.

The ODGC is a Pro-Am event that features Botswana’s best golf professionals and top ranking amateurs. The format of play was strokeplay for professionals and championship division, whilst all other divisions played the stableford format. The 3-day golf and lifestyle event once again took place at the Orapa Golf Club, welcoming in excess of 120 players from all over the country.

The BIHL Group’s Executive Head of Business Development & Stakeholder Management, Thomas Masifhi said, “As the BIHL Group, it brings us great pride to have served as the Diamond Sponsor of the Orapa Diamond Golf Challenge once more. We are passionate about our people and enriching the communities in which they exist, improving livelihoods at every turn. More importantly, we are passionate about taking part in initiatives that stand to make a real difference and a lasting impact and I believe the Orapa Diamond Golf Challenge is an entirely relevant platform to do so, for it creates value for and with Orapa and surrounding communities. We are proud to leverage our Strength in Numbers as the BIHL Group, to play our role in the community and indeed excited to have welcomed the event back after its brief COVID-19 hiatus.”

Proceeds of the tournament are set to go towards one of the communities within which the Debswana Diamond Company has a presence, thus serving a strong philanthropic and socio-economic purpose. This is also in alignment with the BIHL Group’s dedication to positively impact and make a true difference to communities in need, through charitable support, community engagement and support for local sporting codes such as golf. Last but not least, the engagement offered a sound-networking environment for businesses in the area, as well as those with a more National footprint, to engage with each other.
