Professor Shemang was speaking during the Media Tour at the BIUST Campus on December 7th, 2021. He noted however that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s programmes are already on 5 years while those of the Faculty of Sciences are 4 years. The decision for this change was reached following extensive benchmarks and consultations with industry partners and other stakeholders with a view to produce industry-ready graduates, he noted.
“It was thus determined that an Industrial attachment is required to avail the students much-needed practical experience while still studying towards their first degrees,” he pronounced adding that an option to exit at 4th year exists wherein students will graduate with a BSc General degree. Those who choose to go on and undergo an Industrial Attachment and complete in 5 years will graduate with a BSc Honours degree. These qualifications are undergoing registration hence the new change will be effected once completed.
