The Medicines Regulatory Board of the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) announced the appointment of Dr. Seima Dijeng as BoMRA Acting Chief Executive Officer effective 1st January 2023.

This follows the departure of Dr. Stephen Ghanie whose tenure ended on 31st December 2022. Dr. Dijeng has been with BoMRA since 2018 as Director of Licensing and Enforcement with responsibility for overseeing the operational functions of inspections and licensing of pharmaceutical premises, laboratory services, import and export control, and enforcement.

He holds a Master of Science degree obtained from the University College of Dublin in the Republic of Ireland as well as a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in Australia. He has completed a variety of in-house training programmes in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs. Dr Dijeng previously worked for the Ministry of Agriculture in the Department of Veterinary Services, ultimately rising to the level of Deputy Director prior to joining BoMRA. He has over 14 years’ experience in various areas of regulation, including premises compliance, product safety, and enforcement.

The board thanked the outgoing CEO, Dr Stephen Ghanie, for the role he played in establishing the Authority. Further, the board looks forward to the continued support of all stakeholders in BoMRA’s journey to achievement of optimal health outcomes for the nation through ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of all medical products and cosmetics.
