Angola has overtaken Botswana as Africa’s largest diamond producer by value, ending Botswana’s two-decade reign at the top, as global demand for natural diamonds continues to slide.
Figures from the Kimberley Process (KP) show Botswana’s diamond output in 2024 fell sharply to USD 1.35 billion, compared to Angola’s USD 1.41 billion. The last time Botswana lost the leading position was in the early 2000s.
