The Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) is struggling to meet South Africa’s surging demand for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines as the highly contagious livestock disease spreads across multiple provinces.
Farmers’ associations this week warned Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen that the crisis is worsening despite ongoing control measures. South Africa has recorded 270 outbreaks across five provinces, with only 21 resolved to date.
