Kefentse Paizer Kgakgamatso of Kefentse Paizer Kgakgamatso Enterprises says venturing into farming has not been easy because of market issues, but was rescued by funding from the National Development Bank (NDB).
He meets orders of beans and maize from 316 hectares of land in Moshopa. But Kgakgamatso says with Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) being the only major buyer, it is difficult for him to consider his business a success.
He raised a loan from the National Development bank in the 1990s for the project. Kgakgamatso says NDB funding has over the years helped him acquire machinery, pay for servicing of the machinery, buy fertilizers, pay for general maintenance of the farm and meet the wages of six full time employees.
Because this is a seasonal business, he sometimes employs 20 casual labourers.
