NAMIBIA: Despite dry weather conditions, Namibia’s overall cereal yields will exceed their five-year average in 2023.
This is due to increased output from irrigation-based crop production, which will supplement shortfalls in rain-fed crop production. Communal crop farmers who depend on rain-fed crop production will, however, rely on drought relief for a portion of their food requirement.
In this regard, the government has announced the launch of a drought relief programme effective from 1 October 2023 to June 2024 which will provide food assistance to households affected by these shortages (The Namibia Economist)
