Orange Botswana recently unveiled its cutting-edge Tier III Certified Data Center and said it signifies its dedication to being a leader of innovation and technology in the country.
Located at the Botswana Digital Innovation Hub and Technology Park, the center is expected to enhance network connectivity nationally and internationally and improve the network experience for its customers worldwide.
Giving a keynote address at the launch, Thulagano Segokgo, Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology said that the availability and access to digital technology has been an important concern for the government of Botswana.
According to him, this is why major investments are continually made to update the country’s ICT policies and regulations, invest in key infrastructure, and create a favourable operational environment for the growth of ICT use and the industry in Botswana.
“In this regard, Botswana can consider herself fortunate to have Orange Botswana’s Data Centre as a symbol of the necessary involvement of the private sector in advancing the investment made in the people of Botswana and the advancement of creating a knowledge-based economy with production systems based on intellectual property and digital products,” he said.
Orange Botswana CEO, Neine Maiga revealed that the company has made a substantial investment exceeding P70 million in putting up the data centre infrastructure, which signifies its dedication to fortifying Botswana’s infrastructure through investments like this.
“We have paramount confidence that this is a significant step in Botswana’s technological advancement. Through this venture, we have not only introduced a highly skilled workforce but have also played a pivotal role in fostering economic growth within the ICT sector,” she stated.
Maiga noted that the data center boasts modernity, equipped with advanced security features, technological systems, and an environmentally conscious design, which is a true testament to technological excellence.
In the pursuit of world-class standards, she added that the Orange Data Centre proudly carries the Uptime Tier Certification (Tier 3), a classification system employed to standardize the reliability and availability of data centers.
“This certification, granted by the globally recognized Uptime Institute attests to our commitment to ensuring the continuous operation of critical IT systems and upholding the highest industry standards. This Tier III certification will ensure high availability, reduced downtime, and enhanced reliability, all of which directly benefit our business, and our valued customer’s experience,” Maiga elaborated.
She highlighted that the company is determined to move steadily towards uninterrupted services and looks forward to offering Batswana advanced services like cloud solutions and real-time communication as well as constant connectivity through 5G.
According to Maiga, the new data center will also allow for maintenance without service interruption through concurrent maintainability, a capability that she is confident will increase customer satisfaction beyond where it is currently.
“As Orange Botswana aspires to position the nation at the forefront of technological advancements, our role extends beyond infrastructure. By embracing cutting-edge technology and fostering an innovation-centric environment, we are actively contributing to the realisation of Botswana’s 4th Industrial Revolution economic aspirations,” she said.
Furthermore, the company aims to improve and help small businesses and large corporations to meet their digitalization strategies through the data center that will offer services such as hosting this Tier III certified center, offering redundancy and resilience. It also offers affordable cloud services to manage, store, and analyze data efficiently and securely, which will be done to enable small and large enterprises to easily digitize their businesses.
“Our objective is clear—to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the ongoing digital revolution and provide top-notch services to our customers. Through all our initiatives, we are cultivating a digitally inclusive society, enabling individuals, regardless of background, to leverage technology for personal and collective advancement,” Maiga emphasized.
