Organisers of the inaugural Beyond 40: Stride by Stride Walk are stepping up efforts to secure corporate sponsorships and strategic partnerships ahead of the September 5 event, positioning the initiative as a platform that promotes employee wellness, community engagement and corporate social responsibility.
The wellness walk, organised by TM Media, will take place at the Three Dikgosi Monument in Gaborone and will be headlined by Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Moeti Mohwasa. The event forms part of Botswana’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations and is expected to attract participants from the corporate sector, government, diplomatic missions and the wider public.
TM Media co-founder Tlotlo Kebinakgabo said discussions with potential sponsors and partners were progressing positively, as organisers seek to build a coalition of organisations committed to promoting healthier lifestyles and social impact.
“Our search for sponsors and strategic partners is ongoing, and we are encouraged by the interest we have received so far. We are looking for organisations that believe in investing in healthier communities while supporting a meaningful national initiative. Beyond 40 is not simply a walking event; it is a platform that encourages preventive healthcare, active lifestyles and social responsibility,” said Kebinakgabo.
He said the event offers companies an opportunity to strengthen workplace wellness programmes while advancing their corporate social responsibility and environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
“Healthy employees are more productive, engaged and resilient, which is why workplace wellness has become a strategic priority for many organisations. By partnering with Beyond 40, companies will not only support a national wellness initiative but also demonstrate a tangible commitment to the well-being of their employees and the communities in which they operate,” he said.
Kebinakgabo said organisers hope to transform Beyond 40 from a once-off event into Botswana’s leading annual wellness platform.
“We want Beyond 40 to become more than a one-day walk. Our ambition is to build a sustainable movement that brings together government, the private sector, development partners and communities to champion preventive healthcare and healthy living. The partnerships we establish this year will lay the foundation for the growth of the event in the years ahead,” he said.
The initiative focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles, particularly among adults aged 40 and above, a period when the risk of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular illnesses increases.
However, organisers emphasise that the event is open to participants of all ages, with 10km, 5km and 2.5km routes designed to accommodate different fitness levels.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to support survivors of gender-based violence through a beneficiary organisation that will be announced ahead of the walk.
