The Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) is celebrating 35 years of operations, marking a significant milestone in its journey as one of Botswana’s most trusted healthcare financing institutions. Established in 1990, the Scheme has spent more than three decades providing medical aid cover to public officers and their families while contributing to the growth and development of the country’s healthcare sector.
Over the years, BPOMAS has evolved alongside Botswana’s changing healthcare landscape, expanding its reach and adapting its services to meet the needs of a growing membership base. The Scheme says its longevity reflects strong governance, sound financial management and a consistent focus on delivering value to members.
BPOMAS Group Chief Executive Officer, Thulaganyo Molebatsi, said the anniversary is a reflection of the trust that generations of Batswana have placed in the organisation. He noted that many families have remained with the Scheme across generations, a testament to its commitment to reliability, integrity and member-centred service.
“Reaching 35 years is a powerful reminder of the trust that generations of Batswana have placed in BPOMAS. Our longevity is built on consistency, integrity and an unshakable commitment to putting our members first,” said Molebatsi.
Beyond providing medical aid cover, BPOMAS says it has played a key role in improving access to healthcare through partnerships with healthcare providers, investments in wellness and preventative health programmes, and continuous enhancements to its benefits offering. These efforts have helped the Scheme remain relevant in an increasingly dynamic healthcare environment.
Chief Operations Officer, Tirafalo Otlhogile, said BPOMAS has focused on building a sustainable organisation capable of responding to the evolving needs of members and the broader healthcare market. He added that investments in systems, service delivery and innovation have strengthened the Scheme’s ability to remain competitive and resilient.
Looking ahead, BPOMAS is positioning itself for the future through digital transformation initiatives, expanded wellness programmes and a stronger focus on enhancing the member experience. Marketing, Public Relations and Communications Manager, Lesire Mpotokwane, said the organisation is focused on building a smarter and more agile medical aid scheme that continues to deliver value while supporting preventative healthcare.
As BPOMAS marks its 35th anniversary, the organisation says the milestone is not only an opportunity to reflect on its achievements but also a chance to reaffirm its commitment to providing dependable, high-quality healthcare support for future generations of Batswana.
