FNB Botswana CashPlus revenue hits P7.8 billion

Enjoys strong growth across its mobile money solutions Disburses P851.3 million in green and social finance First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) recorded P7.8 billion in CashPlus transactions in 2025, underscoring strong growth in its mobile money and agency banking platforms. The figure represents a sharp increase from P5.5 billion in CashPlus transactions recorded in 2024, according to the bank’s 2025 FNB Botswana Report to Society. Transaction volumes also rose significantly. The bank reported 9.3 million CashPlus transactions in 2025, compared to 6.7 million in 2024. Its agent network expanded to 1,794 CashPlus agents in 2025, up from 1,481 the previous year. FNB said CashPlus enables both FNB and non-FNB clients to access essential financial services through a network of agents. “Using only an active mobile phone number and a one-time PIN (OTP), clients can withdraw or deposit cash or eWallet funds, purchase electricity and airtime, and pay bills directly from their FNB accounts,” the bank said. “This innovative solution extends our reach beyond traditional banking channels, promoting financial inclusion and enhancing service accessibility.” The bank’s Cash@Till platform also recorded growth. Cash withdrawal value reached P101 million in 2025, up from P80 million in 2024. Transactions increased to 285,032 from 226,555 over the same period. Partner stores rose to 348 in 2025, compared to 302 in 2024. On eWallet, FNB recorded 17.4 million transactions in 2025, up from 14.4 million in 2024. “eWallet enables FNB clients to instantly send money to anyone with an active mobile phone number, even if the recipient does not have a bank account,” the bank said. Sustainable finance growth Beyond digital banking, FNB said it continues to expand its sustainable finance portfolio. Although the bank has not yet issued a green or social bond, it has disbursed sustainable finance facilities over the past three years in line with the FirstRand Sustainable Finance Framework, leveraging group support and expertise. FNB Botswana’s Sustainable Finance Framework, approved in January 2025, provides a methodology for classifying and tracking sustainable investments to ensure transparency and accountability. “In 2023, we extended finance to Selebi Phikwe Citrus, our first material sustainable finance transaction since we started categorising transactions per the Sustainable Finance Framework,” the bank said. In 2024, the bank set a sustainable finance approval target of P520 million and exceeded it by achieving P610 million in approved and disbursed funding. For 2025, FNB Botswana set a higher approval target of P1 billion. It reported approvals of P997 million and disbursements of P851.3 million across green and social finance transactions. The bank said the increase reflects growing demand for sustainable finance solutions and underscores its strategic alignment with environmental, social and governance objectives.
