Old Mutual Botswana has announced the introduction of the country’s first insurance product available fully on WhatsApp, the DigiLife Loan Protection.

Through WhatsApp, customers will now be able to request a quote, purchase a loan protection policy, submit a claim and do much more. DigiLife Loan Protection is designed to fully settle the outstanding debt of a customer, should the life assured die or become permanently disabled before they settle their loan.

Lending facilities that will be covered by this product include credit cards, personal loans, vehicle loans and mortgages.

According to the Group CEO of Old Mutual Botswana, Gerald Randall, access to insurance products and services remains a challenge with many customers in Botswana living in far outlying areas. Randall says the company’s aim is to transform its customer experience through value-driven digital innovation and to ensure that their customers are able to access products and services offered when they need them most.

Old Mutual has made significant progress in digitizing customer platforms like Chatbot and WhatsApp servicing over the last two years. Randall explains: “The way people engage, transact and work has changed and we continue to look for innovative ways to digitally service our customers. We also know that the things that matter most in life like family, health and hope for a better future.”

Old Mutual was established in Botswana in 1994 under the name Mutual and Federal and was rebranded to Old Mutual Botswana in 2014. In 2017, Old mutual introduced its life insurance business. Old Mutual Botswana provides financial solutions to individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and corporates in Botswana.

The company offers short-term insurance, including household, car and business insurance as well as life insurance products such as group funeral insurance, group income protection, and disability benefits, among others.
