Orange Botswana and Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in the development of modern economic zones, digital infrastructure, and ICT and telecommunications capabilities in Botswana.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the two organisations to explore initiatives that support the growth of digitally enabled economic zones while improving connectivity and innovation within Botswana’s investment landscape.
Through the partnership, the two entities intend to leverage telecommunications infrastructure and digital solutions to support the development of competitive economic zones that attract investors and enable businesses to operate more efficiently.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Orange Botswana CEO Nene Maiga, said the partnership reflects the telecommunications company’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s economic transformation through digital infrastructure.
“This partnership with SEZA represents a strategic step in ensuring that Botswana’s economic zones are supported by robust digital infrastructure that enables businesses to thrive in a connected and technology-driven environment,” said Maiga.
She noted that reliable telecommunications infrastructure is increasingly central to attracting both local and international investment into special economic zones.
“Digital connectivity is now a critical enabler for economic competitiveness. Through this collaboration we aim to strengthen ICT and telecommunications capabilities within these zones so that businesses operating there can benefit from modern digital solutions,” she said.
Maiga added that the partnership also aligns with Orange Botswana’s broader role in supporting national development priorities through innovation and digital transformation.
“As a technology partner, Orange Botswana remains committed to working with institutions such as SEZA to support initiatives that drive innovation, improve connectivity and create an environment that encourages investment and sustainable economic growth,” she said.
The signing ceremony brought together executives from both organisations and key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to formally launch the partnership and outline areas of future collaboration.
The MOU is expected to pave the way for joint initiatives that support digitalisation within Botswana’s special economic zones, helping position them as competitive hubs for investment, technology adoption, and business development.
