The Orange Botswana Foundation has launched the first phase of its Education+/Back to School (BTS) 2026 initiative, aimed at equipping learners in underserved communities with essential school supplies to improve learning readiness.

The programme was officially launched on May 7 at Kalakamati, Makaleng and Kutamogore primary schools, where learners received school kits containing backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers and lunch boxes.

Officiating at the launch, Justice Hunyepa said partnerships of this nature play an important role in ensuring no learner is left behind.

Speaking during the launch, Ms Modiri Nlanda, Director of People and Social Impact at Orange Botswana, said the initiative goes beyond charity and focuses on empowering learners to fully participate in class.

“This is not a charitable gesture. It is a deliberate investment in learning readiness — ensuring that learners are equipped to engage, to focus, and to thrive,” she said.

The rollout will extend to 12 more schools across the country, including Xhaoga, Tsodilo, Sesung, Maokane, Ukhwi, Selebi-Phikwe, Semolale, Kgoe, Seolwane, Mmaphashalala, Kavimba and Sepako.

The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s broader education support programme, which also complements Orange Botswana’s Digital Schools Network currently operating in 87 schools nationwide.

Through the BTS 2026 programme, the Foundation aims to reduce barriers to learning and strengthen education access in rural and underserved communities.
