Stanbic Bank Botswana has launched a Youth Development Program aimed at creating opportunities for young people through golf, combining sports training with mentorship and personal development.

The initiative, launched at the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club (SBGGC) on the Day of the African Child, targets children and youth aged between 6 and 19 years. Participants will receive structured golf coaching while also learning important life skills such as discipline, leadership, teamwork and resilience.

The program will run in six-week training cycles and is designed to make golf more accessible to young people, particularly those who may not have previously had exposure to the sport. School-based golf clinics will also be rolled out in nearby primary and junior secondary schools to introduce more learners to the game.

Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive Officer, Chose Modise, said the initiative is about more than sport, noting that it aims to help young people build confidence and unlock their potential. He said the bank believes talent is universal, but opportunities are not always equally accessible.

The Youth Development Program is supported through Stanbic Bank’s partnership with the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club, which began in 2022. Funding raised through the bank’s 2025 annual golf day has been used to purchase equipment and training materials, with the first group of participants already undergoing training.
