Q: Kindly introduce us to Sam Sono
A: Sam Sono is a young Motswana from Selebi-Phikwe. I’m a highly motivated individual who was inspired by his parents who were serial entrepreneurs to see young Batswana thrive in business and realise their true potential through entrepreneurship.
Q: Please share with us your brief professional and academic background?

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Public Administration (University of Botswana), a Certificate in Business Development Management (University of Cape Town), an Investment Foundations Certificate (CFA Institute), an Intermediate Certificate in Business Studies (Insurance Institute of South Africa), a Certificate in Supervisory Skills and Management Development (IDM) and a Certificate in Proficiency (Retirement Funds).
Q: Tell us about Scoot, how was it established, and what purpose it seeks to address in the market?
A: Scoot was conceived mid-2018 and formally registered in August 2019. It sought to provide individuals with convenient messenger services to assist them with running errands amidst a growing traffic problem in Gaborone.
Q: Please share with us what it is exactly that Scoot does and offers in the market?
A: Scoot is a delivery and logistics company that provides smart-on demand and last mile delivery solutions for individuals, SMMEs, e-commerce platforms and corporate offices using motorbikes and trucks.
With the growing popularity of e-commerce platforms in Botswana, including Instagram and Facebook sales, Scoot has also ventured into third party logistics (3PL) which allows SMME’s to stock their goods in our warehouse. Our responsibility is to manage their inventory, package and dispatch orders for delivery and provide them with sales reporting and analytics. This offering seeks to improve the way small businesses operate by reducing inefficiencies and lowering operational costs.
Scoot has also started cross-border courier services from South Africa to make it easier for individuals and SMMEs to source goods from e-commerce platforms, stock from suppliers and access to raw materials for production of locally manufactured goods.
Q: Over the years, how has your company grown in terms of product and service offering?
A: Our Company was fortunate to have been in existence pre-COVID-19 and has enjoyed the benefits of the spike in the need for delivery services. We have matured as a business over the years and are more focused on our cause to provide an ecosystem that supports a growing SMME and retail market.
We are at the tail end of building a world-class tech end-to-end delivery management platform that will empower small delivery companies and citizens who wish to utilise their own vehicles for deliveries by matching them with customers who require delivery services anywhere in Botswana.
Q: Currently what is your geographical footprint and how has it grown over the years?
A: We are currently only operational in Gaborone. Our intention is to grow our presence to other regions of Botswana as demand for our services grows.
Q: Please take us through your brand diversity and share with us the competitive advantages of the products you offer?
A: Scoot is currently the only service provider that offers end-to-end business solutions which include integration to company intranets, websites and e-commerce platforms and also provides warehousing and last-mile solutions for businesses.
Q: What makes Scoot Logistics stand out from your competitors?
A: Scoot is heavily-focused on being a purely technology-based business with a paperless environment (including e-waybills, invoices and reports) supported by machine learning and artificial intelligence to reduce costs and improve delivery turnaround time. We are pioneering a new wave of logistics through technology.
Q: So, what are your future expansion plans and product offering diversity?
A: We are in the process of developing other multiple initiatives through strategic partnerships and sister companies that would allow us to scale our operations and service a wider market.
