Established in 2021, Bartender has quickly become a notable player in Botswana’s beverage industry. This 100 percent citizen-owned company is more than just a retail outlet; it’s a comprehensive experience designed to transform how customers engage with their drinks. Located in Molapo Crossing, Bartender serves as a boutique store offering both beverages and bar essentials, aiming to be a one-stop shop for all things related to drink enjoyment.
At the heart of Bartender’s mission is the belief that while alcohol can be purchased from virtually anywhere, its enjoyment should be elevated to an art form.
“We want to create an experience for our customers at every given opportunity, whether in the shop or externally,” says Kabo Moitoi, the founder of Bartender.
This philosophy is embodied in their unique service model, where customers who meet a certain purchasing threshold are treated to 30 minutes of complimentary drink service by a professional bartender. This initiative emphasises the importance of the bartender in the drinking experience, a need that Bartender is keen to fulfill.
In addition to its physical store, Bartender operates a mobile bar station that caters to events of all sizes, from intimate housewarming parties to large, remote gatherings. This service extends the company’s reach and brings its signature drinking experience directly to customers wherever they are. From cocktails and mocktails to coffee, Bartender provides all the services one would expect from a high-end bar or restaurant.
Bartender also places a strong emphasis on gifting, aiming to foster a culture of giving in Botswana. “There are celebrations on a daily basis,” Moitoi explains, “There is always a birthday, house opening, showers, and even events.” The business offers gift-wrapping services in addition to alcohol purchases, making it easy for customers to give thoughtful gifts for any occasion.
The company prides itself on its local roots and collaboration with other Batswana businesses. By working with local brands like Maungo and alcohol distributors such as Ipela and Aslina, Bartender supports and promotes the local industry. This commitment to local partnerships underscores Bartender’s role not just as a business, but as a community player helping to uplift the local economy.
“Our aim is to inculcate the culture of giving and create memorable experiences,” says Moitoi. As a pioneer in the Botswana beverage scene, Bartender is setting a high standard for customer service and community involvement. Through its innovative approach and dedication to excellence, Bartender is poised to leave a lasting impact on how Batswana enjoy their drinks and celebrate their special moments.
