In a world that is at many crossroads – between war and peace, floods and droughts, freedom and restraint – it may seem to some that simply getting through it is enough. However, for the branch of the United Nations concerned with what the world will look like after getting through it, there is no option to waiting to find out.

Knowing quite well that continuing on a path toward destruction will not change the outcome if the intentions are good, member states of the United Nations, through the lobbying of entities such as the United Nations Development Programme, agreed upon 18 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals.

Established in 2015, the SDGs were fashioned to break down the massive tasks that face communities of the world through understanding their interconnectedness. That solving poverty (Goal 1) sits at the intersection of alleviating hunger (Goal 2) and increasing access to education (Goal 4) and reducing inequalities (Goal 10) is a fact that cannot be denied.
