Air Botswana has added three new Embraer Jets to its fleet as part of its new strategy which aims to expand its route network and reclaim consumer confidence by delivering on their commitment to provide world-class services to travellers.
โAir Botswana has embarked on a refleet exercise, we have been working around the clock since December, and we are glad to state that we have identified three new aircraft, three fully paid for, and we are on the market for the fourth,โ revealed Air Botswana Managing Director Lulu Rasebotsa during a recent media engagement where she further informed that all aircrafts are Embraer jets.
The National Airline currently operates two new-generation ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft and one Embraer E-170 jet for its domestic and regional routes. Rasebotsa disclosed that, โATRโs will remain a part of the fleet because the intention of the re-fleeting is to minimise the delays.โ
Over and above that, the carrier hopes to create employment opportunities. โWe have had a couple of Aeronautical Engineers who have been engaged as Interns as of 1st June, and we are going to employ these young people.โ
Further underscoring their commitment to uplift and empower local youth, she stated that Air Botswana has committed itself to serving only locally supplied snacks, most of which are produced by youth owned businesses.
To give travellers easier access to their services, AIR Botswana is taking on more coordinated efforts to integrate digital technology across all facets of their operations. โI urge you all to download our apps, we are present on social media, and we are busy developing your online check-in,โ said Rasebotsa.
She also mentioned potential new routes. โWe are waiting for final approval for Namibia, Durban, Nelspruit and to bring back Cape Town to Kasane and Cape Town to Maun in order to drive tourism and diversify the economy of this country.โ
