- SADC, BTO have approved the awards
The Botswana Travel and Tourism Awards have been officially launched and 18 June 2022 agreed as the inaugural awards night at Gaborone International Convention Centre.
Speaking at a media briefing this week, the Project Director of the BTTA Awards, Moshe Morebodi, said the idea is to celebrate a sector that has survived turbulent times occasioned by the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These awards have been endorsed by SADC,” Morebodi disclosed, adding that SADC endorsed the inaugural awards because they align with the regional bloc’s policy of promoting tourism. He described the awards, which have also been endorsed by Botswana Tourism Organisation, as a collective effort to celebrate the diversity of Botswana and the role played by entities and individuals in the growth and promotion of tourism as a sector.
“These awards are in line with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Reset Agenda which seeks to transform Botswana into a fully-fledged tourism hub,” he said. “Winners will stand a chance to participate in the upcoming World Travel Awards.” Application forms are available at Botswana Post offices across the country while a website for more application forms will be announced as soon as it is running. In addition to Botswana Post, Deloitte and Touche, Btv, News 25 Online and Air Botswana are among partners engaged by BTTA for the inaugural event.
