In the spirit of giving back to its loyal customers and rewarding them for their unwavering support, retail giant Choppies Botswana recently launched its annual Big Birthday Bonanza competition.

According to  Marketing Manager Whitney Makhale, the competition – now in its 20th edition – promises prizes amounting to P6 million shared among lucky customers.

This will include the grand prize of a brand new C200 Mercedes Benz, five Nissan Navaras to be won at the grand finale, P15 000 each to 96 lucky customers, P2 000 gift vouchers for one lucky winner every month for each of the Choppies stores countrywide, P500 gift voucher for three lucky customers in each of the Choppies stores and P10 000 to 20 Choppies employees in the staff draw.

“The Big Birthday Bonanza competition is truly the gift that keeps on giving,” Makhale said. Sharing a brief background to how the competition started, the CEO of Choppies, Ramachandran Ottapattu, shared how it launched with only one car to give away as an initiative to attract customers and build the Choppies brand that was still in its infancy at the time.

He noted how since then the Big Birthday Bonanza has grown in leaps and bounds to arguably become the biggest giveaway competition in Botswana, with over 236 vehicles and hundreds of millions given away to deserving customers.  “I wish to thank our suppliers and partners, particularly CA Sales and Clover Botswana, who have over the years supported the initiative wholeheartedly,” Ottapattu. “The Big Birthday Bonanza would not be the life-changing competition that it is today without your support.”

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Anna Mokgethi, noted that the Choppies brand has a traceable history of societal change in Botswana. “From its humble beginnings in Lobatse, Choppies has grown to become a retail giant and one of the largest employers in Botswana,” she said. “So it is without any surprise that it should champion the biggest competition in the country.

“The Big Birthday Bonanza has grown to become a life-changing spectacle, and as the brand continues to grow, I celebrate and encourage the management of Choppies to continue giving back to its customers. For what is a brand without its community?”  To enter the competition, customers have to buy any of the products of the participating brands at the nearest Choppies store, fill out an entry form, and drop it into a designated box.
