Global CEOs to speak at The Future of Mining Summit 2025

The Future of Mining Summit 2025, Botswana’s premier mining conference, is set to attract global attention with a stellar lineup of international CEOs confirmed to speak. 

Scheduled to take place on the 16th and 17th of June at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone, the summit will run under the theme “New Opportunities, Smart Partnerships” and is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates from around the world.

Now in its second edition, the summit has rapidly grown into one of Africa’s most anticipated mining conferences. The inaugural event, held in 2024, drew 470 delegates. Building on that success, the 2025 edition is backed by the Government of Botswana through the Ministry of Minerals and Energy and supported by the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB), the government’s minerals investment arm.

The Future of Mining Summit is designed to reinforce Botswana’s reputation as a premier destination for mining investment in Africa. It offers a unique platform for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and strategic partnerships aimed at unlocking the full potential of Botswana’s mineral wealth while catalysing economic diversification and inclusive growth.

Among the headline speakers will be Parshant Goyal, Chief Executive Officer of Jindal Africa, who will present on the topic “Developing a World-Class Privately Funded Coal Energy Project – Spotlight on Jindal Mmamabula Energy Project.” Goyal’s session will provide insight into Botswana’s largest independent power production project and will explore opportunities for collaboration in financing, infrastructure, equipment supply, skills development, and community upliftment.

Brendan Harris, CEO and Managing Director of Sandfire Resources Limited, will deliver a presentation titled “Building a World-Class Copper Asset from the Ground Up: Empowering Communities & Strengthening the Local Economy.” Harris is expected to share the journey of Sandfire Resources from its initial acquisition of Tshukudu Metals’ exploration assets to its current position as a major investor in Botswana’s copper sector.

The company has committed more than P7 billion to the development of a state-of-the-art copper mine, which has already created thousands of jobs and generated significant value for local communities and businesses. His presentation will underscore the company’s role in driving economic diversification in Botswana.

Also joining the summit is Charles FitzRoy, CEO and President of Giyani Metals Corporation, who will focus on the growing electric vehicle and energy storage sectors with his talk, “Developing Sustainable High-Purity Battery Manganese for the Electric Vehicle Market.”

FitzRoy will highlight the company’s efforts to develop high-quality manganese oxide assets in the Kanye Basin, including its flagship K.Hill project. Giyani Metals is positioning itself as a key player in supplying battery-grade materials to global markets, with the High-Purity Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate (HPMSM) market expected to expand tenfold by 2030.

Dr Maximilian Matschke, Managing Partner at Anura Partners, will present on “Tracks to Prosperity: Realising the Vision for the South Africa-Botswana Rail Corridor.” His presentation will draw attention to Africa’s vast reserves of critical minerals and the importance of transport infrastructure in unlocking stranded value. Dr Matschke will share insights from a recent report launched by Anura Partners in February, which outlines strategies for the successful development of the South Africa–Botswana corridor. The report aims to foster collaboration and guide future infrastructure investments that can benefit both countries and the broader region.

So far, over 40 speakers have confirmed, including the Vice President of Botswana, Ndaba Gaolathe, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Kenewendo, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Noah Salakae.
