Projects across Africa seeking investment will have an opportunity to connect directly with funders at the upcoming IDEAL Summit 2026, scheduled for April 8–9 at the Royal Aria Conference Centre in Tlokweng.

Organised by Square Gate Group, the summit aims to move beyond traditional conference dialogue and create a platform where entrepreneurs and innovators can engage directly with investors looking to deploy capital.

Shamil Tumisang Agosi, managing director of Square Gate Group, said the event is designed to match credible projects with serious investors.

“The IDEAL Summit is the perfect opportunity for projects looking for funding to interact and meet with investors who are serious about capital allocation,” Agosi said. “We want to ensure that great ideas are matched with credible funding pathways.”

The summit’s name — IDEAL, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Local Empowerment — reflects its mission to translate those principles into bankable opportunities aligned with the realities of global capital markets.

Agosi said the global investment environment has become more selective, with investors increasingly focusing on execution capability, governance and risk management.

“The global investment climate is tightening,” she said. “Capital is increasingly selective, prioritising execution certainty, credible governance and robust risk management. At the same time, the market is recalibrating how it values ESG, shifting from broad narratives to measurable performance and proof of delivery.”

She added that investors are also demanding clearer risk-adjusted returns and faster due-diligence processes.

“ESG fatigue is real — organisations must demonstrate materiality,” Agosi said. “Supply chain localisation and geopolitics are reshaping value chains, meaning local empowerment must occur at execution level, not as a corporate social responsibility exercise. Africa is being repriced: investors are moving from promise to proof.”

This year’s summit is structured in two stages designed to mirror how investment decisions are made.

Day one, the IDEAL Investor Roundtable on April 8, will be an invitation-only session bringing together institutional investors, development finance institutions, strategic corporates and senior policy actors. The closed-door discussions will focus on aligning capital with pre-vetted projects and establishing investment structures and risk preferences.

“Day one ensures that the capital intent driving the summit is grounded in disciplined evaluation,” Agosi said. “It prioritises deal flow and credibility over volume and noise.”

Day two, the public IDEAL Summit on April 9, will bring together corporate leaders, policymakers, investors and ecosystem partners to explore how IDEAL principles can translate into competitiveness, governance credibility and investable projects.

Organisers say the summit will feature structured mechanisms aimed at accelerating investment decisions and improving project readiness.

Projects seeking funding can submit proposals through the official application portal ahead of the summit. Those shortlisted will have an opportunity to engage directly with a curated pool of investors.

“For projects seeking funding, registering is not just about attendance — it’s about being considered for capital alignment at the highest level,” Agosi said.

Organisers say the initiative is part of a broader effort to reposition Africa’s investment narrative by shifting focus from potential to proven, investable opportunities.
