Lucara Botswana: re-writing the rules of diamond mining

GABORONE 25 February 2022, Lucara diamond company announces a sponsorship of P300,000 for Botswana Netball Association (BONA) in Gaborone on 25 February 2022.   • Retrechment is confined to Lucara’s security department
  • Says an organisational optimisation process rendered some positions redundant
  • Retrenchment follows considerable back-and-forth with union

Lucara Botswana is going ahead with a retrenchment process alongside restructuring programme in its risk/security department that could result in an undisclosed number of its employees losing their jobs.

This is inspite of a recent statement from Botswana Mine Workers Union that it had acted “swiftly” to prevent retrenchment of 50 employees of Lucara.
