At a briefing recently, Standard Chartered Bank openly said it wants to ensure that its non-funded income lines grow more aggressively than interest income so that its returns are in the right place, in case current headwinds come into the market.
By headwinds, the oldest bank in Botswana refers to the spiralling cost of funding and low interest rates that have compressed interest income margins for banks.
