Just days later, the world’s fastest relay teams will arrive for the World Athletics Relays, a global competition with enormous stakes for Botswana. “This year’s event effectively serves as the final major international athletics competition before the relays,” Kolantsho said. “It allows everyone involved—organizers, officials, volunteers, and service providers—to experience the environment that will exist during the relays.” In practice, the Grand Prix functions as a live test event. Technical officials will rehearse competition procedures, volunteers will gain hands-on experience managing crowds and assisting athletes, and systems such as accreditation, stadium access, transportation, and emergency response will be evaluated under real competition conditions. Sponsorship discussions are nearing completion, and organizers expect the field to feature a mix of global stars and Botswana’s top athletes. Kolantsho said the moment has the potential to accelerate local athletics development.
