- Says govt is seeking common ground with teacher unions
- But a report recommends no allowances for teacher-coaches
The government is doing all in its power to revive school sports which was suspended in March 2020 as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture (MYGSC), Tumiso Rakgare, has said.
At the time, the then Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic Education, Bridget John, said budgetary constraints were the reason for suspending school sports.
“The ministry has been struggling to pay participation fees as its budget for sports remains at P2 million a year against an annual cost of about P60 million,” she said at the time.
