For years, we viewed culture as a "soft" issue - a perk, a branding exercise, or something for HR to manage between birthdays and team building exercises. That era is over. Just as we do not debate whether a building needs fire exits, we should no longer debate whether a workplace needs psychological safety. When dignity is missing, we aren’t describing "high standards." We are describing operational risk.
Culture is not HR. It is governance. Under King IV, the governing body is accountable for organisational ethics and for ensuring that culture enables strategy. For directors and executives, this is not optional - it is a fiduciary duty.
