The Future of Mining Summit 2026 is scheduled to take place from June 29–30, 2026, at Boipuso Hall, Fairgrounds in Gaborone, Botswana. Organised by The Projects Magazine, the third edition of the event has solidified its position as Botswana’s premier mining conference and thought-leadership platform.

The summit is expected to attract more than 2,500 industry leaders, policymakers, investors and development partners from across the world.

Held under the official theme, “Mining for Transformation: Economic Diversification and Shared Prosperity,” the gathering aims to position Botswana as Africa’s leading mining investment destination while examining how the sector can drive industrial growth, infrastructure development and long-term economic resilience.

Future of Mining Summit 2026 to focus on industrial growth and value addition.

The 2026 programme will bring together senior industry executives, government officials and regional financial experts to map the next frontier of African mining.

Key topics will include financing infrastructure beyond core mining operations, the social dimensions of mining, regulatory compliance, equitable distribution of benefits, and frameworks for regional collaboration. The summit will also feature high-level discussions on investment flows and sector performance metrics.

The event will include technical panels and delegations from major industry players such as the De Beers Group, Debswana, Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB), MMG Khoemacau, Lucara Botswana and Morupule Coal Mine. Financial institutions including Absa Bank Botswana, a Gold Sponsor, and First Capital Bank will also participate, underscoring the role of capital in driving sector growth.

Over the two-day programme, discussions will focus on strategies to navigate global market headwinds while increasing local value retention within the mining supply chain.

A central theme will be the role of public-private partnerships in financing supporting infrastructure such as power grids, road networks and rail systems required to transport bulk commodities efficiently and sustainably. Experts will also examine risk-sharing models aimed at addressing regional logistics and supply chain constraints.

With automation and data analytics reshaping mining operations, the summit will explore how technology can improve safety, efficiency and productivity. Sessions will also address the development of future skills required to equip local workforces for increasingly digital mining environments.

As global demand patterns shift, particularly in the diamond sector, attention will turn to provenance, branding and value-chain competitiveness. Industry leaders will assess how strategic partnerships can strengthen local capabilities in diamond cutting, polishing and related technologies.

The summit will also place strong emphasis on environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks. Discussions will focus on responsible mining practices, fair contribution to local economies through levies and taxes, and corporate social investment programmes that deliver long-term community benefits.

Ultimately, the Future of Mining Summit 2026 is expected to serve as a key platform for deal-making and policy dialogue. By addressing issues ranging from the energy transition to equitable resource distribution, the Gaborone gathering seeks to advance Botswana’s broader goal of transforming mineral wealth into a diversified and resilient economy.
