G4S reports modest revenue growth

Global security firm G4S Botswana reported a 1.6 percent increase in revenue for the six months to June 2025, rising to P117.6 million from P115.8 million a year earlier. The growth was driven mainly by Manned Security Services (MSS), which rose 7.2 percent to P58.7 million, up from P54.8 million in June 2024. “This increase was offset by downward performance in the Electronic Security Solutions business line (ESS), while the Cash business remained flat at P32 million,” the company said. The ESS segment, which includes alarm and other security equipment installation, maintenance, and monitoring, saw revenue decline by 5.9 percent, from P24.2 million to P22.8 million. G4S attributed the drop to account terminations in the residential category due to non-payment, driven by the economic slump, while new sales were unable to offset losses. Gross profit improved significantly year-on-year, supported by better margins on MSS contracts following a margin correction exercise, lower severance and leave liabilities compared with the previous year, and a 40.3 percent reduction in cost of goods sold, the company said. Net impairment losses on financial assets fell to P3.5 million in June 2025 from P6.7 million in June 2024, following write-offs of debt older than 365 days, mainly in the alarm business. “In the current adverse economic environment, the group continues to manage the key risk factors of probability of default through improved credit risk management and technology-driven debt collection solutions,” the company said. Administration expenses fell 3.7 percent, mainly due to lower employee costs following a restructuring exercise in December 2024, though these savings were partly offset by increases in property and IT costs linked to inflationary pressures. The half-year to June 2025 delivered a profit before taxation of P3.2 million, compared with a loss of P8.2 million in the same period last year, driven largely by reduced net impairment losses and lower administration expenses. The company said it remains focused on growing revenue across cash-generating units, controlling costs, and improving debt collection and cash management to sustain profitability. “The Group balance sheet remains strong and can fund current operations and future growth,” G4S said, adding that it continues to target increased market share, particularly in security technology, where demand for innovative solutions is growing.
