Botswana has a new freestyle dance champion. Alvan-Michael “Michael” Okere emerged victorious at the Red Bull Dance Your Style Botswana National Final, held at Molapo Crossing Piazza on 11 July 2026, earning the opportunity to represent Botswana at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final later this year.

After an afternoon of electrifying one-on-one battles, Okere outshone a talented field of Botswana’s top freestyle dancers with his creativity, musicality and ability to adapt to every track thrown his way. Staying true to the unique Red Bull Dance Your Style format, the winner was decided entirely by the audience, who voted him their champion after an unforgettable final battle.
The national final transformed Molapo Crossing Piazza into a celebration of street dance and urban culture, with fans treated to high-energy performances, unpredictable music selections and thrilling freestyle battles. Live performances by Zee Nxumalo and Sykes, together with Mdu Tha Party as MC, kept the energy at an all-time high throughout the event.

Now crowned Botswana’s best freestyle dancer, Okere will shift his focus to preparing for the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final, where he will compete against national champions from around the globe for the ultimate international title.
“This is a moment I’ve dreamed about for a long time. Every battle pushed me to be more creative, trust my instincts, and give everything I had on the dance floor. Knowing that the audience believed in me enough to vote me champion makes this victory even more special. I’m incredibly proud to represent Botswana on the world stage, and I’m ready to give my all against the best dancers from around the world,” said Alvan-Michael Okere.
Red Bull Dance Your Style continues to provide a global platform for freestyle dancers to showcase their individuality, originality and passion, with no pre-planned choreography and no judges, just dancers, music and the crowd deciding who deserves the crown.
Now crowned Botswana’s best freestyle dancer, Okere will turn his attention to the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final, taking place in Zurich, Switzerland, on 24 October 2026. There, he will represent Botswana as national champions from across the globe converge for the ultimate one-on-one freestyle showdown to compete for the prestigious world title.
