Maitisong is the place to be for “a good laugh (that) bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around”. Yes, tomorrow tonight.

Laughter, it has been said, is the best medicine.

While this is not conclusively verifiable, a good cackle definitely does the work of lifting one’s mood.  The capital city will be treated to an evening of foolery by the Gaborone Comedy Club. Boldwin Bals is set to headline “The Bals & The Bloody Fools” comedy special produced by the outfit on 4 August.

No stranger to stages of all sizes, Bals will take over Maitisong for an evening promising side-splitting gags and punchlines. The seasoned rib-tickler celebrates his seventh year as an industry regular this year. Aficionados and novices of all walks of life are invited into community as the show aims to foreground “the friendships and connections that comedy has gifted me”, says Bals.

The Gaborone Comedy Club has curated a remarkable line-up of comedians whose sole mission will be that of spreading smiles. Familiar names on the billing include Bambino, Jonny Pula and Triccs – who cofounded the Gaborone Comedy Club in 2022 with Bals – and they will be in the company of DePay TML, Mawee and Thapelo Malani, among others.

A flurry of surprises

In an evening that threatens to have quite a few tricks up the proverbial sleeve, it wouldn’t be off brand for a flurry of surprises to keep audiences erupting with laughter to be packed in.

The Gaborone Comedy Club has made availing witty merriment to the local market their business, producing spectacles to spotlight local comedians and playing host to international acts along the way. National sensations, Hey Nyeenaah and Mdu Tha Party, will serve as the co-captains of the ship, powered by the support of Pitch Marketing & Advertising, Born A King Photography, Siwizi Photography, Major Moves, Gifted Clothing, Sesotho and Sparkling Clothing Brand.

In the words of Carolyn Birmingham, “A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around.” Maitisong and the Gaborone Comedy Club open their doors to put such fine poetry to the test.
