The Innovation Kgotla, a citizen-owned tech startup has partnered with Chobe Holdings to provide access to ICT training and opportunities to empower youth.
The collaboration, the first of its kind, will provide digital literacy and skills development among youth in northwestern Botswana. Chobe Holdings is a premier tourism company.
The tech startup said it aims to empower young people in Nagamiland and bridge the gap for rural communities to access digital technology. Through initiatives like data science scholarships and STEM programs, over 1,000 Batswana have benefited from Innovation Kgotla’s impactful work.
To celebrate this transformative partnership, Chobe Holdings and the Innovation Kgotla recently launched an event themed “Transforming Ngamiland Innovation Space.” The event showcased cutting-edge STEM and robotics projects by students from local schools, including those from Chobe Holdings’ adopted schools.
Managing Director of Chobe Holdings, Lempheditse Odumetse said his company is committed to fostering creativity and entrepreneurship through education. Chobe Holdings contributed over P5 million towards educational initiatives. For his part, Director of the Innovation Kgotla, Peter Fella, expressed gratitude for their support from Chobe Holdings and said it highlights the importance of STEM education in shaping the future careers of young Batswana.
The event also welcomed the German Ambassador to Botswana, Margit Boette, a key partner in establishing the first Innovation Kgotla Centre in the Northwest. Ambassador Boette stressed the importance of a knowledge-based economy and supporting digital transformation at the grassroots level.
