  • A new era in access to quality education dawns as Collegium launches digital library
  • Collegium books will now be available on Snapplify 30 percent cheaper than paperbacks

Educational book publishing company, Collegium, has collaborated with Snapplify, a South Africa-based company that specialises in innovative end-to-end e-learning solutions to digitalise its book list and launch its prescribed textbooks in an e-book format.

At the beginning of his tenure at the helm of the publishing company, the CEO of Collegium, Terrence Showa, said he was tasked with bringing Collegium forward to the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) through digitalisation and creation of educational e-content.

Speaking at the launch of Collegium e-books, Showa recalled this, saying the event was the culmination of a three-year journey of a lot of work invested in developing the Collegium e-library. He applauded the government for ensuring universal access to education, adding that as a publishing company they are always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate with the government by assisting it in its endeavour to make education successful for everyone.

“The Collegium e-library will provide a simple solution that can be used at home or school and will be convenient and accessible,” Showa said. “This initiative was fast-tracked by the government’s decision to electrify rural areas, which will bring quality access to education to students in the most rural and remote areas of Botswana. Teachers have always called for platforms that can enable them to teach in the 4IR era and we are delivering exactly that.”

Also speaking at the event, Shadreck Majwabe said the government has made a commitment of access to e-education for all schools across Botswana by 2023. Majwabe noted that the Ministry of Basic Education is looking into procurement of e-books and is willing to spend money on access to quality education as a means to the government goal of a knowledge-based society through research, innovation and digitalisation.

Collegium books will now be available on Snappilify at a 30 percent cheaper rate than paperbacks.   This will enable leaners to buy books in one place, read, listen and learn anywhere, as well as empower educators with free content.  The company has been in existence for 20 years and has grown to become a leading publisher of high quality school textbooks for both primary and secondary schools.
