According to the 2022/23 Gambling Authority annual report, the total gross gambling revenue for the financial year 2022/23 was P206,184,212.63, an 18.6 percent growth compared to P173,733,516.25 collected the previous year.

This also contributed to the increase in levies due to the Authority by 12.1 percent. The Responsible Gambling contribution and entrance fees increased by 21.5 percent and 20.1 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year. In 2022/23, the authority collected P3.3 million in entrance fees while the Responsible Gambling levy collected  P9.2 million.

According to the report, all casinos yielded desired results in terms of revenue. This is primarily due to the recovery of the economy from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The Grand Palm Casino continued to dominate the market with a 44 percent market share.

It has increased from 40 percent to 44 percent at the time. It was followed by Avani with 23 percent. Moonlite Casino maintained its position as the third largest with a 21 percent share of the market. The Casinos that lead the market share are within the cities (Gaborone and Francistown).

The Casinos’ gaming revenue (GGR) has been experiencing growth from the year 2018 to 2023. However, the revenues drastically dropped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the period under review, the casino revenues are evidently showing a recovery and gaining momentum.
